This boat would be a great boat for someone who has time for a boat. It does not have any major problems other than needing a coat of paint but the boat runs and drives very well The suzanne is a displacement hull boat and probably does around 12 knots at moderate rpms. The large 671 Detroit diesel takes around 2.5 gals of feul to operate and it will run all day on 10 gallons of diesel. I have driven the Suzanne from The Longview area on the Columbia River all the way out into the Ocean past the bouys and back without emptying one tank. If someone wasn't in a big hurry they could enjoy a boat for days out on the water without spending hundreds of dollars operating it. I have found the sailboat I have always wanted and do not have the time for this boat anymore but this is a good old boat and it is the only one of it's kind left so it needs someone to care for her. Properly cared for the Suzanne could last another thirty years or so.
The Suzanne built in xxxx at the Bremerton naval ship yard, was a 40 ft. WWII navy boat that predates Pearl Harbor and is the last of this application according to the Maritime museums.
The gear box is a twin disk. The 671 Detroit is a very good running engine and has been operated routinely at least once each month, together they are practically invinceable. The two main feul tanks are silicon bronze and hold 80 gal. The feul has been polished a few years ago.
The planking made from Alaskan yellow cedar are so poisonous that they refuse to rot.
The frames are made from salt cured white oak.
The hull has been refastened with stainless screws.
The Suzanne does not leak.
The Suzanne has a Wood Freeman Auto Pilot.
The Suzanne still has the brass rail on her bow where Ma Deuce (50 Calibur Machinegun) used to live, there is a brass plaque on the wall with the boat's original military serial number from the Bremerton naval shipyard. The bow stem, cleats, prop, wheel, throttle, stern cap, fasteners upper and lower side (bumper) rail , cutlass bearing support, stuffing box housing, rudder, feul fillers and cap, are all bronze.
